Universal Orlando Resort consists of two theme parks, a dining & entertainment area, and three Loews hotels. The resort originally began with just Universal Studios Florida until 1999, when they expanded by adding Islands of Adventure, Universal CityWalk, the hotels, and two multi-level parking structures.

Universal Studios Florida opened on June 7, 1990.  The park features attractions and live shows separated into seven different areas where you can “ride the movies”. The park also features attractions that are from other studios libraries, such as Shrek, Men in Black, and The Simpsons. The park also works, although minimally, as a working studio.

Universal's Islands of Adventure opened in May 1999, where you can journey through an area of exploration where guests leave the “Port of Entry” and visit five differently themed "islands". A sixth island will open in late 2009, themed to the Harry Potter franchise.

CityWalk opened in 1999 along with the expansion of the resort. It was built over the former Universal Studios parking lot and entrance. Guests arriving will park in one of two multi-story parking structures, then travel along a walkway into CityWalk. Guests then proceed into either of the theme parks, Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure.

The resort features three official hotels: The Royal Pacific Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel, and the Portofino Bay hotel. The parks are in close proximity and offer a free water taxi or shuttle bus service to the fun. Guests staying on site can also use their room key as an "Express Pass," where you can bypass the regular lines.

Throughout the year Universal Orlando offers many special events including Mardi Gras, Grinchmas, and it's most popular event, Halloween Horror Nights. The first Halloween Horror Nights took place in 1991 and has been an annual tradition ever since. The event brings people from all over the country and has become the largest Halloween event in the United States.
