Man accused of rape at CityWalk
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL Fox 35) A 23-year-old Davenport man is charged with sexual battery, after a woman says he raped her at Universal's CityWalk. According to police reports. Joshua Gilliard approached the woman at the Groove at CityWalk claiming he was a professional golfer and bought the victim and her friend’s drinks at the bar and went dancing.
Authorities say they then went to a private area where he sexual assaulted the victim who says she blacked out.
"It's hard to believe in a place like this, somebody's sexually assaulted," said Mohammad Janjua who works in the area.
The victim was found by Universal employees face down on an air conditioning unit with her undergarment on the ground police say, witnesses also saw Gilliard leaving the scene -- the crime is causing concern among tourists who frequent the CityWalk.
"I'm really upset and shaken because I'm with two teen girls right now and thank God I didn't leave them out of my sight, I went every day there with them since we've been here," said Paulette Domico, a tourist.
But some locals say the incident doesn't surprise them.
"A lot of alcohol and things like that, with all the people there, tourists and things like that, it could get a little hectic, so I could see it happening," said Kyle Cryderman of Florida.
Universal Orlando released the following statement on the incident: The safety of our guests is our most important priority. We have a strong partnership with the Orlando Police Department - and our security team and Orlando police officers maintain a strong and consistent presence across our destination.
