You're just another part of me !!! HEEE HEEEEEE
All Hail Doctor Doom!
Today was media day in Epcot for Captain EO. Reports are that it has less bumpy seats, different effects than Disneyland and everything including the pre-show is all from the 80's.
Also, the show is currently holding CM previews but the word is, that softs may occur today.
I think the media is confused. What they are likely speaking of is how DL's queue video is. They show the original preshow featurette which was a 4-6 min mini documentary on the making of Captain EO. It is essentially a generic 80s music montage of dancing and people who helped execute the attraction. Promo fluff.
It most definitely included the 1980s preshow (or so the intro claims). We were there for media day so hubby taped it. Here's a link to the full preshow video and my review with plenty of photos, including the tshirts they're selling and the original Captain EO sign gracing the entrance once again: http://bit.ly/dyI2QV
According to dozens of reports, soft openings did occur after the media event today. Tommorow is the scheduled Passholder Preview day and there is no word on whether or not softs will occur again.
I'm going to check it out tomorrow for the AP preview!
I'm so excited because it reminds me of the past....
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of going to Epcot to check out ‘Captain EO,’ a 3-D attraction starring the late Michael Jackson, brought back for an indefinite period of time. As I approached the Imagination Pavilion, I started to notice the signage and suddenly, I started to become even more excited than I was at that time. In fact, I think I was overly excited. As we enter the Magic Eye Theatre, I noticed they had changed a lot to the interior. They installed new carpeting and the walls before you enter the preshow area were newly repainted and themed to EO. As I walked in, I found myself staring at a poster themed to ‘EO’, and a banner that says ‘We Are Here to Change the World.’
Unfortunately, I was too late and missed the preshow, so I do not know what the video is like. However, as we entered the theatre, I could tell there was a change from it’s predecessor, ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Audience.’ The theatre itself received a nice fresh coat of paint, new flooring and seats, as well as a new façade for the theatre screen. As you sit down, you notice the screen has the famous ‘Captain EO’ logo with a starry galaxy before. Not too long after the audience is seated, the show begins.
Let me say that ‘Captain EO’ is one of the best 3-D attractions I have ever seen. (Yes, it is way better than Shrek 4-D). Walt Disney Imagineers changed the projectors in HISTA over to Disney Digital 3D, giving ‘EO’ a fresher look as well as making the 3-D effects more appealing to your eyes. While you can tell the film is from 1986, it doesn’t really make a difference to most people. What matters the most is that ‘EO’ has returned to its former home, and most people agreed after the show that when something has shown its age, sometimes it is good that it does. The theme song ‘We Are Here to Change the World’ is really catchy, as well as the choreography that was taught for the film. Anjelica Huston did an extremely good job as the evil Supreme Leader, and Michael Jackson’s crew members were adorable to watch. I highly recommend ‘Captain EO’ to anyone who is not only just a major Michael Jackson/Disney fan, but to everyone out there.

They did not change the projectors out. It was very obvious that it was a film projection and even was announced once by a CM that it was a remastered print. Though overall it was a wonderful show.
Kevin, glad you enjoyed your time and was excited about it but it seems as though your excitement exagerated some of the things you mentioneed. As far as I have seen and can tell no stage changes to the mian theater other than podeium and side screen that was once on the left above it.
The stage design and theme is still the awards show. They did not give it a facade for EO. Notice it is even still the same shape with that corner cut that way and the platform themed to the award show stage is still there.
Also as said the film was not converted to digital projection but rather just a reprint.
