New World Showcase Country Rumor

(8/13/10) Apparently the sudden push to add a new country to Epcot was stirred up as an idea to add something for the park’s 30th Anniversary, which will begin Oct 1st, 2012. I’ve also heard that there is still talk about doing some kind of expansion to the Japan pavilion as well. Previously we’ve seen two big ideas get designed but never go anywhere, a Ginza shopping district style area and the former Mt. Fuji coaster idea, inspired by the Matterhorn at Disneyland, but evolved to become Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom. Anyone have a clue just what may be in the works now?


(8/12/10) The Orlando Biz Journal (http://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/blog/2010/08/a_new_country_at_epcot.html) reports that Epcot may once again be preparing a possible new country for World Showcase. This time around the popular rumor is Spain. Anyone know more? Is there any truth behind this rumor?

Maybe the World Cup had something to do with Spain getting the strong consideration? :lol:

Don't get your hopes up on the WS new country. My source says that the rumor is complete bunk.

Spain would be a good idea, or maybe Brazil...

The two main countries that would/should be added is Russia, because of the different type of architecture, and Egypt, again for the Pyramids and Sphyinx, etc..

Spain is too similar to Norway, which is similar to Britain, which is similar to France. There are a lot of the same, and a lot of differences. They need something dramatic like Russia with the Cremlin.

But I agree with Disneyhead, this is completely a dead end.

Spain or Egypt would be great additions to the World Showcase! But other than food, Spain and Mexico are similar, and I see Egypt offering more diverse shops and possible attractions.

Switzerland and Russia are my favorite... they could do something a la Europa park in Germany (they have a great Switzerland pavilion there!).
I've never thought about Egypt! That would be great!

Epcot is waiting for IoA to bulldoze lost continent to expand potter so they can theme the Greece Pavilion to mythology complete with an E-ticket attraction!!! ... or just some meet n greets with Hercules ...
