Disney's Hollywood Studios Management has announced that they will be pushing the start time of Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights up from November 30 to November 10. The last day the lights will dance will be January 4, 2010.

Wow with budget cuts I would expect them to take off dates. Good news though, because begining of November is one of the best times to go to the parks.

Agreed, Yeti! The air is cooler and the atmosphere is much different in the park than anywhere else. I, for one, cannot wait until the Lights dance again. :D

Why take off dates? The lights start going up in August - they're installed and in terms of staffing, it doesn't cost them much to run it but it does draw people in.

I'm just not a fan of the whole Disney philosophy of the day Halloween ends, Christmas begins, but that's what it's turned into for sure. :bonk:

Don't read too much into things. Stuff like that isn't even considered for something like this.

Still, it is still going to be great to see this again. The lights are the best included holiday event in Orlando. Unless Universal gets Mannheim Steamroller again. Then you have some competition.

Blah. I kind of disagree. Back in the day, the Lights were soooooo great lining Residential Street. It's just not the same on New York / Streets of America. Honestly, I think the musical thing they do with it is kind of tacky. I wish they just stuck with always on, snowing and Christmas music like it used to be.

You are the first person I have ever known that does not like the music.

I just think it's tacky. The flashing lights on and off - they look WAY prettier just having them on - or at least twinkling.

They just shouldn't be turning entire sections of them off. It looks more like they blew a bulb than anything else.

And the music is WAY too loud. BGM is supposed to be just that - BACKGROUND music. It shouldn't be so loud that you have to yell over it.

I think that it is really nice seeing them dance. I never found the music to be too loud. When the lights are dancing they make it louder because it is supposed to be like a show.

That "show" takes the experience from spectacle to road side tourist trap as far as I'm concerned. It really killed a lot of the charm that existed when the lights first debuted years ago.

I think that the music really brings a lot to the playing field. I once went and saw this with someone two years ago and after seeing the display talked about it for months.

Meh. The whole thing is moot. Dollywood can out-Christmas Studios any day.

Btw -- I'm assuming they just do it after sunset? Is it just a "flip the switch on" sort of thing, or is there some sort of lighting ceremony?

snoman
11-09-2009, 09:40 PM
I assume they do this every night, but when we were there they had selected a family to flip the switch. There is actually a big giant light switch too! They do a nice little audio presentation of the history of the light show from the original Osbourne family to today and they do a countdown. It was the first time we had ever seen it all lit up and I must say I got a little emotional, it was really amazing. They have the fake snow machines going and all the lights and music is totally overwhelming and just awesome! Have fun and take lots of video, pictures just don't do it justice!
