This Friday, May 1st... Disney's Hollywood Studios (which I still call MGM from time to time) turns 20 years old!
It's amazing that it has been 20 years since opening! I recall seeing the mouse ears just put up on the tower saying
"MGM Studios COMING SOON!" (Or something to that effect)

I saw this cool article online that gives 20 facts about DHS, pretty neat read.

Oh and I found this CHEESY special all about the Grand Opening hosted by John Ritter :(
Bad quality and it's there and SO dated!
Use this page and search MGM opening in his videos because I discovered they are split into like 12 parts and I dont want to post all the links here because that is kinda obnoxious.

And feel free to share some of your favorite memories or attractions from DHS over the years here in this thread.

I'll start....I remember the early days of the Studios when I wished that one of the boys from MMC would be somewhere around to see in the Backlot Tour.

This is the only thing DHS had up for their 20th anniversary:

That's it! Come on at least put out some old merchandise like they did for EPCOT. They should really have put something in One Man's Dream to represent its history.

Don't out do yourself Disney we couldn't have that. This surprises me. I would expect Universal to do something like this but Disney kinda shocks me. IOA will be around 10 years on the 28th and I don't think they have anything planned.

So Disney didn't do anything special for the Studios?

They invited guests into the Premiere Theater (Old Hunchback theatre behind San Francisco on the Streets of America) and had some top Imagineers speak about the creation and history of the park. They showed lots of early concept art and they didn't directly say it, but they made it pretty obvious they weren't fans of the Sorceror's Hat. Cameras of any type or audio recorders were prohibited.

I believe there is a 20th anniversary t-shirt out, so I'd imagine there are pins too. I'm really surprised they only have those little banners out at the front of the park. I'd like to see more referencing the milestone throughout the park. Maybe they don't want to go overboard with anniversaries since WDW's 40th is coming up pretty soon and the celebration could begin as early as Fall next year.

I don't remember hearing this announced or anything. Would've been nice to send out an e-mail to at least the passholders.

Well, the presentation at the Premiere Theater sounds cool. I know it's not much but I wish I had been there. And yes, there are a bunch of 20th anniversary pins. I saw them on the pin trading site.

Hmmm, having the Celebrations theme this year suddenly makes much more sense. Also, on the topic of celebrations, it seems like there would be a mention here as well, seeing as it's celebrating the 20th anniversary. I'd be happy with something Animal Kingdom-style like last year, but I guess it's too late for that.

Honestly, we had no clue they were even doing this. There was no announcement or anything, which makes me a little angry being a Passholder and DHS being my favorite park. :bang:

They are all limited edition of 1,500. There is another one (which the link for it would not work) that is open edition.

And now a few months later Rock 'N' Roller Coaster turns 10. Here are some pictures from opening day and before from theme park rangers.
