Walt Disney World Resort is the most visited resort in the world, containing four theme parks, two water parks, twenty-three themed hotels, and numerous shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation venues. It opened on October 1, 1971, with the Magic Kingdom theme park, and has since added into the enormous resort that it is today.

The Magic Kingdom opened on October 1, 1971. It was the only theme park on the resort at the time. The attractions are split into six themed lands including Liberty Square, an exclusive land to the Orlando park. Epcot is the second theme park built at the Walt Disney World Resort and opened on October 1, 1982, 11 years after the Magic Kingdom. The name Epcot comes from the acronym Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, a utopian city of the future planned by Walt Disney. Disney's Hollywood Studios was the third theme park built opening on May 1, 1989 as Disney-MGM Studios. The park consists of six themed areas drawing inspiration from the early days of Hollywood. Disney's Animal Kingdom is the fourth theme park that opened on April 22, 1998. The park covers 500 acres, making it the largest Disney theme park in the world. It is themed entirely around animal conservation, a philosophy that Walt Disney himself encouraged, celebrating three types of animals; real, extinct and mythical.

The resort also offers two water parks. Typhoon Lagoon opened on June 1, 1989 and is home to the world's largest outdoor wave pool. According to "Disney legend", a typhoon wreaked havoc upon a pristine tropical paradise. Blizzard Beach opened on April 1, 1995. "Disney legend" says a freak snowstorm in the area lead to the construction of Florida's first ski resort. The snow didn't last long, leaving behind a collection of waterlogged but snow-less ski jumps and chair lifts. The failed resort was in the process of closing for good when an alligator, Ice Gator, was seen sliding down a flume and splashing into a pool of water transforming the "ski resort" into a water park.

Downtown Disney offers shopping, dining, and entertainment during the day, and night. The Marketplace and West Side have always been free to enter, while Pleasure Island required the purchase of admission only by those entering the nightclubs. Disney's property also includes five golf courses.  There are also two themed miniature golf courses, Fantasia Gardens and Winter Summerland.

The Disney offers 22 resorts that are classified into five categories: Deluxe, Moderate, Value, Disney Vacation Club, and Campground. There are 10 hotels that are owned by private, non-Disney hospitality companies. Guests arriving at Orlando International Airport can be transported to their Disney resort from the airport using Disney's Magical Express service.
