So, excited for the Simpson
Ride? Yeah? Me too. But what if it wasn’t to be the Simpsons,
and was to be Fast and the Furious? Would you still be excited? In
this article, you’ll hear about the stuff that never was, and
the stuff that could be. So come along on a journey of powerful proportions
and enter the Universal time chain.
What if Twister was never
opened? What would we have? I think that it is not a stretch to say
Ghostbusters would still be around, kicking all kinds of ass, in relevance
to its HUGE cult fan following. What if we never got Men In Black:
Alien Attack? What would be in its place? Could it have been a new
Terminator “shoot-em up” instead? How about even a Ghostbusters
training facility? A deep look into Universal’s past attractions
and movie franchises brings about a plethora of ideas to be spread
among the Universal Orlando Resort.
We know we have The Simpsons
Ride coming to Universal, but I’m pretty sure everyone would
have gotten excited over a Fast and The Furious simulator. Think about
it. You and eight other guests hop in a Nissan Skyline, and another
eight people hop into a tricked out Toyota Celica. Each guest would
have to do something in the car simulator in order to win the race.
One guest could be in charge of NOS release, and one in charge of
steering and so on, and so forth. Think of it as Mission: Space, but
with car racing.
How about Jimmy Neutron
being replaced by Transformers? How do you like that one? Walking
into the world of Nick is fun, but walking into the world of Autobots
and Decepticons sounds more like my style. One side of the ride theater
would be an Autobot, chosen by popular vote in the ridecars, and a
Decepticon via the same way on the other side of the ride theater.
Each side of the theater would seat about 50 - 60 people. Then in
the middle of the theater, using Pepper’s Ghost technology,
the two Transformers would battle according to what each person does
to control it. Think back to a little kids show called Power Rangers,
and think of a robot called the Megazord. Multiply its “badass-ness”
by hundred and there you have Transformers: The Battle Wars.
Now I know what you’re
thinking, “Why do the people control all the parts of the ride?”.
Well, good question. The way I see it, Universal should be looking
for interactivity in most of its rides and the interactivity with
guests equal massive re-ride abilities.
I mentioned a little Ghostbusters,
previously in the article. Now think about that one. MIB: Ghostbusters
style. Instead of the big bug, you have Stay Puft man, and voila,
smash hit for guests.
Now over to Islands of
Adventure. We have Harry Potter coming, and there’s nothing
to do to stop it. Hell, I’m actually quite excited. But! What
if Lost Continent was home to the previously proposed Van Helsing
dark ride. Would the boy wizard even be making his way to a Universal
park?
To make a connection to
the great Doc Brown, somewhere along going back to these fantasies
and ideas, we’ve skewed into this alternate Universal timeline.
And if we go even further into the future, things might be a little
different, because we are following the timeline if Van Helsing was
built. What if Van Helsing was so raw, that Universal had extra dough
to cash out. Would Jurassic Park finally have received a real new
major E-ticket by now? Would we have that awesome Jeep Ride alongside
of the River Adventure? Would we get a Bourne Stunt Show in place
of Fear Factor Live? The possibilities are endless, if only we had
some whacked out doctor with a modded DeLorean.
If the events, such as
closing Ghostbusters, and closing King Kong, and inviting a boy wizard
to an Island, could’ve made a difference, I would love to see
what would have happened. Then again, the future is what you make
it, Universal.
