When you think of Islands
of Adventure, most of the time you think of attractions like The Incredible
Hulk Coaster, Dueling Dragons, and the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.
But, what about the less talked about attractions that make up Seuss
Landing? I know what you are probably thinking. The Cat in the Hat
is pretty popular, and High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride, albeit
is still new, is also a talked about ride. What about the other 3
attractions?
Let's focus on the first
attraction experience you first see when you walk into Seuss Landing.
If I Ran the Zoo is an interactive play area geared primarily towards
little kids. As you walk in, you are welcomed by that oh so young
Gerald McGrew as he explains to you the features of his zoo (yes,
I know I just rhymed in that sentence.) Based on the story If I Ran
the Zoo, the play area is home to many of the creatures that are featured
in the beloved story, including a Tickle Toe, a Waterneck Bird, and
Seersuckers, too!
As part of the play area,
"If I Ran the Zoo" features an interactive water area. Here,
kids will be able to get as wet as they can while jets of water shoot
over their heads and into the moat surrounding the Bad Animal Catching
Machine. Oh, all the things that Gerald McGrew has thought up of for
his wonderful zoo. "If I Ran the Zoo" is full of exciting
features that kids will certainly have a blast interacting with. A
word of advice - you may want to set aside at least an hour for the
young ones to play around. They will want to stay there for a while
because of all the exciting creatures!
The next attraction on
our agenda to cover in Seuss Landing is One Fish Two Fish Red Fish
Blue Fish. This attraction can be quite the popular one in terms of
wait times during the peak seasons, such as Spring Break and the summer
months. At One Fish, you are able to pick your favorite colored fish
(Red, yellow, and blue fish for parties of two, and an orange and
green/orange and purple two-fish for parties of three). Once aboard,
the song instructs you prior to riding that you are able to control
how high or how low you can fly with the handle in the center of the
fish.
Most people I talk to are
concerned with how wet you may get on One Fish Two Fish. I always
assure them that if they follow the song, that they will not get as
wet as most people who do not listen to the song. Once the ride starts,
water will spray at you from various "fish poles" stationed
around the ride. The third part of the song has the water spraying
wherever you are flying. So, even if you are flying high or low, you
may get wet! I personally love One Fish Two Fish when it's hot enough
to ride it.
The final attraction that
is often overlooked at Seuss Landing (and I must say OFTEN) is the
Caro-Seuss-El. The Seussian carousel is a very fun and different version
of a carousel that you would only expect to find in a Dr. Seuss-themed
park. There are many characters to choose from to ride on the Caro-Seuss-El,
many of which can also be found in "If I Ran the Zoo." The
Caro-Seuss-El also features two chariots where you can sit if you
are not wanting to ride one of the characters.
Why is Caro-Seuss-El always
overlooked? That question, to this day, still remains unanswered.
The crowd that usually comes through varies through age. The average
wait time for the attraction is a breath taking five minutes. However,
during peak seasons, I have found the attraction to manage to climb
to a 15 minute wait. Talk about it being a popular attraction.
These attractions that
help compile Seuss Landing help play a pivotal role in making this
island an island where guests can be immersed in the world of Dr.
Seuss. From the zany adventures of The Cat in the Hat, to the seasonally
run event called "Grinchmas", Seuss Landing has a special
place for many IOA visitors. Whether you prefer to ride One Fish Two
Fish or High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride, you will always
find a happy Seussian walking around the winding streets of Seuss
Landing.
